How Fast CAT points are calculated

Fast CAT is a timed 100-yard dash after a lure. The run time is turned into miles per hour by dividing 204.545 by the time in seconds. That speed is then multiplied by a handicap based on your dog's height at the withers, so small dogs can earn titles as quickly as big ones.

Height handicap

  • 18 inches and taller: 1.0
  • 12 inches to under 18 inches: 1.5
  • Under 12 inches: 2.0

Fast CAT titles

  • BCAT: 150 points
  • DCAT: 500 points
  • FCAT: 1,000 points
  • FCAT2, FCAT3 and up: every 500 points after FCAT

Example

A 14 inch dog runs the course in 8.00 seconds. 204.545 divided by 8 is 25.57 miles per hour. With the 1.5 handicap, that run is worth 38.35 points.

Common questions

How are Fast CAT points calculated?

The dog's time over the 100-yard course is turned into miles per hour (204.545 divided by the time in seconds). The speed is multiplied by the height handicap to give the points for that run.

What is the Fast CAT height handicap?

Dogs 18 inches or taller at the withers use 1.0, dogs at least 12 but under 18 inches use 1.5, and dogs under 12 inches use 2.0.

How many points are the Fast CAT titles?

BCAT is 150 points, DCAT is 500 points and FCAT is 1,000 points. After that, every additional 500 points adds a number, so 1,500 points is FCAT2.

How fast is 5 seconds in Fast CAT?

A 5.00 second run is about 40.9 miles per hour. For an 18 inch or taller dog that is about 40.9 points.
